The Kauffman Foundation has launched Kauffman eVenturing, a new Web site that provides growth-oriented entrepreneurs a convenient way to access current, practical information on how to start, manage, and grow their businesses, contributed by entrepreneurs who?ve ?been there.? The site is organized around key subjects such as finance and accounting, people and human resources, sales and marketing, products and services, operations, and the entrepreneur (e.g., strategy, culture, leadership). (Article contributed by the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center.)

The Internal Revenue Service has a resource section for small business owners. Answers to questions such as ?When do I start my tax year??, ?What is taxable and nontaxable income??, and ?What forms do I need to close my business?? are provided. Suggestions for recordkeeping and accounting are also included. (Article provided by SBDCNET.)

Did you know that 53 percent of small businesses are home-based or that small business firms create 60 to 80 percent of new jobs, and two years is the average survival rate for most small businesses? These are a few of the statistics collected by the Small Business Administration in their FAQ PDF. (Article provided by SBDCNET.)

Dear Ryan,

Good morning! This month's newsletter brings you exciting economic development news from several areas. Dow Corning Corporation has won a Department of Defense grant and gained recognition as one of America's Greatest Brands. Rowe Incorporated has won an Award of Excellence for their work on the Grand Curve Trailway. And we're pleased to welcome Eastwick Industrial Park's newest tenant, BWP Transport.

But for all that has already happened this month, there's still more to do. State Representative John Moolenaar's Homeowner Fairness legislation (House Bill 4617) has passed the Michigan House and Senate, and now stands before the Governor for her approval or veto. We believe this legislation is vital for the future economic growth of Midland, the Saginaw Valley, and ultimately the State of Michigan. See below for information on how you can contribute to its success.

All of us here at Midland Tomorrow wish you a safe and joyous holiday season. Thank you for another successful year of work to grow Midland's future. We appreciate your support.
