AEGIS Environments
When two Dow Corning employees spun out proprietary antimicrobial technology, they had no idea where they'd end up - using their technology for everything from creating antimicrobial socks to vanquishing a black mold infestation at a million-square-foot hospital in Malaysia. Midland's deep knowledge of the chemical industry and what chemical business needs to function, as well as a unique manufacturing and distribution relationship with Dow Corning's worldwide facilities, helped make it happen.

Cabot Corporation
Cabot, a manufacturer of fumed silica products, gets its raw material from Dow Corning Corporation. Previously they shipped it to their Illinois plant by rail; now, Cabot's Midland plant pumps its feedstocks directly over the fenceline from Dow Corning's Midland Site. After ten years in Midland, Cabot is using the Midland plant's fenceline operation as a model for all their future global facilities.

Evergreen Solar
In 2008, Evergreen Solar's search for an expansion site ran into difficulty when they added in-house manufacturing of high-temperature filament, the crucial component for their entire manufacturing process. Midland's deep chemical industry knowledge mitigated all issues with their process, and their state and local permitting was completed within 90 days. Evergreen broke ground on their Midland facility in September 2008 and opened its doors by May of 2009.

The Savant Group
The Savant Group, four separate but interconnected companies serving the automotive and lubricants industries, has no reason on paper to have started in Midland or to stay here. What changes the game are all the factors that aren't apparent at first glance: the expertise of our workforce, the deep industry knowledge in our community, and the pro-business attitude of our municipal government.
